Overview

Established in 1949, the Central Conservatory of Music is a specialist conservatory in Beijing devoted to high-level musical performance, composition, scholarship and education. Its teaching units span composition, musicology, conducting, piano, orchestral instruments, Chinese instruments, vocal music and opera, music education, violin making, and music artificial intelligence and information technology. The institution combines rigorous individual training with ensemble practice, research and public performance.

The 2026 admissions materials show a broad set of undergraduate performance and composition directions, a detailed master’s catalog and doctoral study in both practice-based and academic music fields. Students can work in Western and Chinese instrumental traditions, vocal performance, opera, historical musicology, electronic music and new technology. Program length depends on level and specialization: most bachelor’s directions take four years, selected performance and composition directions take five, the master’s degree takes three, and most doctoral directions take three years, with music AI and information technology taking four.
