Overview

Harbin Medical University is a public medical university in Harbin, Heilongjiang, with roots in the Binjiang Medical School founded by Wu Lien-teh in 1926 and the medical institutions that later contributed to its development. It is jointly supported by the provincial government, the national health authorities and the Ministry of Education. Its academic structure includes basic and clinical medicine, public health, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, biomedical engineering and health management, with affiliated hospitals supporting clinical education and research.

The university’s College of International Education manages international undergraduate and postgraduate study. Its 2026 brochures identify a six-year English-medium MBBS programme and English-medium Master’s and doctoral research routes supported by a published supervisor directory. International recruitment involves qualification review, academic assessment, language evidence and, in postgraduate study, supervisor acceptance. Self-funded tuition is published separately from CSC and Eurasian scholarship funding, and applicants must follow the dates, documentation and selection conditions of the particular route rather than assume that scholarship benefits apply automatically.
