Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology

Founded in 1956 in Baotou, Inner Mongolia University of Science and Technology is a multidisciplinary public university with particular strengths in metallurgy, materials, mining, mechanical engineering and the industries of the surrounding region. It brings together engineering with science, business, humanities, law and the arts. The university reports more than 26,000 undergraduate students, 4,700 graduate students and a substantial network of regional research platforms.

The university has admitted international students since 1995. Its 2026 international guide lists 12 undergraduate and eight master’s programs, including mineral processing, civil and mining engineering, food science, urban design and social work. Applicants to degree programs normally need HSK Level 4; those below that standard may take a year of Chinese preparation before entering their major. The university also participates in the Inner Mongolia Government Scholarship program.
