Overview

Minzu University of China is a national comprehensive university in Beijing, included in China’s Project 211, Project 985 and Double First-Class initiatives. Its academic identity is rooted in humanities and social sciences, especially the study of ethnic communities, languages, histories and cultures, alongside a wider range of scientific, technological, management and artistic disciplines. The university offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral education and brings together students from all 56 ethnic groups of China and international students from more than 50 countries. Its teaching and research reflect this multilingual, multicultural setting, with established work in ethnology, anthropology, Chinese history, religious studies, education and language studies.

For international applicants, the 2026 admission catalogues distinguish Chinese-taught degree programmes from a separate group of ten English-taught master’s programmes. The College of International Education also provides Chinese-language study, customized short-term language and culture programmes and exchanges with overseas partner institutions. Language learners study at different proficiency levels and may join cultural activities such as calligraphy, painting, music and martial arts. Exchange participation depends on institutional agreements and, for postgraduate research, supervisor acceptance. Scholarships have their own subject, nationality, age and language conditions and are assessed separately from self-funded admission; applicants apply through the university’s designated international student service system.
