Overview

Shanghai University of International Business and Economics is a public university founded in 1960 and administered by Shanghai Municipality. Its academic development centers on international trade, finance, investment, development cooperation and economic governance, supported by management, law, languages, statistics and related fields. The university’s international degree students study at the Songjiang campus, while its International Students Office operates at Gubei Road in Changning. Its disciplinary structure connects trade and business education with language training, legal study and research on the international economy.

The 2026–2027 international admissions catalogs identify eleven undergraduate majors, ten master’s majors and a doctoral program in International Trade. All listed international degree programs are taught in Chinese, including the English language and translation majors; designated language majors additionally require English proficiency. Undergraduate admission combines academic review, HSK evidence, CSCA results and an interview, while postgraduate selection considers academic preparation, research plans and program-specific prerequisites. International funding includes Chinese Government and Shanghai Government scholarships, with a separate Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship route for the designated Chinese education major. On-campus housing is available in double and four-bed rooms, charged per person per academic year.
