Overview

ShanghaiTech University is a public research university jointly founded by the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013. Located in Shanghai’s Zhangjiang science and technology district, it emphasizes research, innovation and interdisciplinary education. Its schools and institutes connect physical science, life science, information technology, biomedical engineering, management, arts and humanities. Students and researchers work alongside national scientific facilities and research institutes in Zhangjiang, with laboratory study, collaborative projects and close academic supervision central to the university’s educational approach.

The Office of International Affairs coordinates Summer Lab, a non-credit research program for international undergraduate students from partner institutions and institutions admitted by invitation. Participants work in a host laboratory for six to eight weeks, supported by a research plan and supervision from university faculty. The program includes cultural and innovation-related visits and awards a completion certificate to successful participants. Tuition and registration are waived for eligible participants, while accommodation must be arranged off campus and mandatory insurance purchased separately. Applications go through the coordinator at the student’s home university and may include a virtual interview with the prospective host professor.
