Southwest Petroleum University

Southwest Petroleum University (SWPU), founded in 1958 as China’s second petroleum university, is jointly administered by the central government and Sichuan Province, with strong provincial support, and has developed into a comprehensive, research-intensive institution. It comprises 16 schools and multiple specialized research institutes, offering a full academic spectrum across science, engineering, management, economics, arts, law, and education, with extensive authorization for undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs, including several nationally recognized key disciplines. SWPU is distinguished by its high-level faculty, state-level teaching and research platforms, and strong scientific output, having undertaken thousands of national and industry-funded projects and received numerous national and ministerial awards in science, technology, and teaching. With broad international collaboration, two campuses in Chengdu and Nanchong, and a large, diverse student body, SWPU has educated over 146,000 graduates and continues to pursue its “second-time pioneering strategy” to become a first-class university in China with globally recognized leading-edge programs.
