University of Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded in 1978 as the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which was described as the first graduate school in China, and it was renamed UCAS in 2012. The university is administered by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is built around an integration of research and education model. UCAS ranks 5th among global universities in the 2026 Nature Index and 1st in Chinese mainland and 10th worldwide in the latest Essential Science Indicators university rankings. It operates through four campuses in Beijing, five education centers outside Beijing, and more than 110 CAS institutes across China.
