Overview

Xuzhou Medical University (XZMU), established in 1958 and located in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, is a higher education institution administered by the Jiangsu Provincial Government. The university has developed into a major center for medical education, research, and healthcare services in northern Jiangsu and the wider Huaihai Economic Zone. With three campuses and 36 affiliated hospitals and clinical schools, XZMU supports strong clinical training and academic development. It enrolls around 17,000 students and employs approximately 1,400 faculty members, offering 28 undergraduate programs across key medical disciplines such as Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Anesthesiology, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacology, and Medical Imaging.

 

The university launched its master’s programs in 1985 and currently offers 45 graduate programs, with Clinical Medicine and Biology recognized as key doctoral disciplines. XZMU is particularly known for its leadership in anesthesiology education, having established China’s first undergraduate anesthesiology specialty in 1986. The university began enrolling international students in 2005 and now offers MBBS, MD/MS, PhD, and Nursing programs to students from over 50 countries. Through partnerships with global institutions—including Harvard University, State University of New York Health Science Center, and Medical University of Vienna—XZMU actively promotes international academic exchange while providing scholarships, modern campus facilities, and comprehensive support for international students.
