Yunnan Arts University

Yunnan Arts University is a public specialist arts institution in Kunming, established in 1959 with institutional roots in the cultural and teacher-education activity of the 1938 Southwest Associated University. Its academic community brings together music, dance, theatre, film, fine arts, design and arts management. Teaching, creative practice and research draw on Yunnan’s cultural resources and on traditions of learning from folk arts, while exhibitions, performances and professional projects provide practical settings for artistic development.

The university’s international admissions guide offers full-time undergraduate and Master’s study together with non-degree Chinese-language courses, and explicitly refers applicants to the published subject catalogues. Degree applicants need appropriate prior qualifications and HSK 4, with academic review determining admission. Specialist degree courses are Chinese-taught; unusually, the international guide explicitly identifies English as the instructional language for its Chinese-language programme. International degree students can enquire about scholarships through the International School, while language students are excluded from those scholarship opportunities and from the published campus dormitory arrangement.
