Once the basic setup is complete, a few settings can make IMS Hub easier to use on your own terms. Choose the mode you want to work in, make the interface comfortable to read, and decide which notifications and contact-sharing choices are useful.
Settings separates these tasks from your main Academic research and Connect discovery. You do not need to change every option at once. Start with the friction you actually notice: an outdated personal detail, too many alerts or a need to pause nearby visibility.
Check your account details first
Open Settings → Account → Personal information when a personal detail needs correction. Academic study goals and qualifications are edited through the Academic profile; the Account area is the place to review personal information and sign-in options.
Account also includes Passkeys and, for applicable password-based accounts, Reset password. If the account uses another sign-in provider, its password is managed with that provider. Check the method shown before assuming that a missing password-reset option is an error.
For help with a correction or an account problem, use Settings → Help & support. Keep the issue specific: what you were trying to change, which screen you used and the message you received. This is more useful than changing unrelated settings in search of a fix.
Choose a comfortable working view
Under Preferences, IMS mode lets you choose Academic or Connect. Academic centres on universities and your Academic Profile; Connect centres on student discovery and your Connect Profile. Choose the mode for the task you are doing now.
App language offers Automatic, English, Simplified Chinese and Russian. Automatic follows a supported device language preference. The language choice concerns the interface; do not assume that every university publication or another person's bio was written in that language.
Appearance offers System, Light and Dark. Data Saver uses smaller previews and loads a photo in full when you open it. These are practical choices if you want a more comfortable reading view or smaller image previews while using the app.
Separate notification choices from device permission
Settings → Notifications contains University updates and University match alerts. The first controls notifications about eligible university publications. The second opens Match alerts, where you can review opportunity monitoring, application windows and deadlines, new matching opportunities and email updates.
Device permission is a separate part of this screen. If push notifications are off at the device level, changing an in-app preference does not automatically override that. Use Open notification settings when you need to inspect the device's permission.
Mute only what is unhelpful. University update notifications can be paused without removing updates from the university profiles. You can still return to Academic and read relevant content when your access permits it.
Use the specific Connect privacy control you need
Open Settings → Privacy & safety → Connect privacy controls. Blocked students lets you review that list. Make my profile invisible stops nearby visibility, while Stop all contact sharing revokes future in-app access to contact details across your Connect connections.
These actions have different purposes. If you want a break from nearby discovery, inspect visibility. If you want to withdraw existing sharing consent, inspect contact sharing. Revocation cannot retrieve information someone already copied outside IMS Hub.
Privacy controls require a connection. Read the completion message rather than assuming an offline tap has been queued. Device permissions has a separate link for managing location, photos, camera, microphone and notification access through your device.
Distinguish signing out from closing the account
Sign out ends your current session. Delete account is a separate, permanent action with its own confirmation screen and a requirement to type DELETE. Read the consequences and any subscription-management notice before proceeding.
If your goal is simply a quieter week, review notifications and Connect visibility first. If your goal is to change a paid plan, use Payments & subscription. Choosing the control that matches your intention avoids turning a small preference change into an account decision. See the IMS Hub mobile page for current app information.
